Borderlands tomorrow night 🤩
Borderlands: Sinéad
Join us on the 12th September at the Pavilion Bar for our monthly event Borderlands, starting at 7.30pm. This month we will be reflecting on the songs and life of Sinéad O’Connor. Musicians will offer interpretation of her music and we will have reflections on what her life has meant to Ireland in these last three decades especially. As someone whose faith was always very present, after all she “stole a Bible on a chronic Christmas Eve”, she offered a blistering critique of institutional religion. This critique threatened some. It wasn’t what we wanted, but maybe it was what we needed. As we navigate a society moving quickly away from religious narratives, Sinéad, in her Christianity and latterly her Islamic faith, sought a faith that can be oriented around those most neglected and at the mercy of powerful and destructive societal currents. We can learn much from who she was and what she said with that soft, trembling voice of hers.
Send us a message if you would like to take part.
