Harbouring Doubt-Progressing Faith

What if the cross was never about God needing a blood payment?

What if God never needed or wanted any of the sacrifices we’ve ever offered? What if the whole thing was always wrong and only ever created victims?

(After all, that’s literally what the word victim means, “a creature killed as a religious offering”.)

What if Jesus’ cry of “Why have you forsaken me?” wasn’t because God turned away in disgust at sin — but because God always turns away from violence masquerading as worship?

What if the whole sacrificial system wasn’t God’s idea to begin with — but ours?

The prophets tried to tell us: “I’m sick of your burnt offerings.” “I never asked for them.” But we kept making victims to feel holy.

And then Jesus becomes the last victim — not to appease divine wrath, but to expose it all as a sham… and offer forgiveness instead.

Not because we earned it. But because we always had it.

We don’t live good lives to get God’s love. We live good lives because we are already loved by God.

That’s what this series is exploring. It’s bold. It’s honest. It’s a little heretical-sounding (in the best way). And it might just change how you think about the crucifixion altogether.
