Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Martin Luther King Jr
United Against Racism Belfast
The anti racist movement in Belfast is calling on all progressives to take a stand against racism and Islamophobia tomorrow.
Join the peaceful community rally in solidarity and against Islamophobia.
Over recent days, numerous calls for people to protest against Muslims in Belfast have been shared on social media. These calls rest on a completely false narrative that Christianity is under attack, and that Muslims are a threat to our society, rather than an integral part of it.
The calls for people to protest and march in order to demand that Muslim members of our community leave the country are clearly and undisputedly Islamophobic.
We want to reassure the community that this hate is not endorsed by the majority of people here. But we speak out because we recognise the wider impact of hate speech and of recent attacks on Muslim and minority communities who feel vulnerable and threatened at this time.
Across the world the far right and fascist forces are trying to whip up hate, target minorities and misdirect ordinary peoples anger at governments failings toward vulnerable communities. We will not allow this to grow here. On Saturday we say unity over division, no to racism and Islamophobia. Please share, come along to the peaceful rally and take a stand at Belfast city hall.
