Like many others, we are dismayed to see various community groups calling for a targeted protest, by Christians, against our Muslim neighbours on Saturday.
“Bring your Christian flags and banners” they say, “to stop the spread of evil Islam this Saturday.”
Christian banners and flags marching against Islam? That’s right, in 2024, those who claim the name “Christian” are literally cosplaying the medieval crusades of a thousand years ago.
This is what happens when Christians refuse to progress in their faith – they end up regressing to the wicked tribalism of darker days.
“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” 1 Tim 4:1
The only banner any Christian should be marching under is the banner of love. Especially love for the widow, the orphan and the stranger.
“God loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners.” Deut 10
We appreciate those Christian Denominations who are speaking up, such as MCI who say: “We condemn plans by far-right groups within our society to bring people onto the streets, stirring up fear and hatred, and making our communities unwelcoming to many who live there. We stand against all narratives that divide people based on race and nationality or that undermine social cohesion and law and order.”
We encourage all genuine people of faith to stand up for love, welcome and inclusion and to reject the narrative of hate that is corrupting the very heart of what it means to follow Christ in today’s world.
